MAPS will be teaching children through sport and play, enabling them to gain valuable life skills and tools that will help them achieve their goals in all aspects of their life whether it is education, arts, sport or business. Many people see sport and play as a past time activity or something to do to stay healthy, they do not look through the layers to what these programs truly teach the youth of our community.
Pertinent life skills are gained through the many experiences that sport provides to youth. Things as time management, work ethic and teamwork are a few key skills needed for youth to succeed in many aspects of their life. These characteristics can be picked up through activities and programs dealing with sport.
Knowing how to manage your time through scheduling your day and ensuring you complete all the necessary tasks you have to accomplish is important through work and school. MAPS provides each morning an overview of the tasks that are to be accomplished and the participants learn the importance of understanding how to manage your day accordingly to complete the tasks. Through the fall and winter program participants learn to understand the importance of scheduling in schoolwork around your afternoon program. MAPS has educators to help students who may feel overwhelmed with both the program and school work and help them to understand how to manage them all even at such a young age and make the most of your time.
Work ethic and teamwork are gained through the amount of work and time spent with others in the program. It is something that can be learned without even knowing you are learning it as going through the movements of sport force you to not only work hard but also work with each other.
